Girl Scouts collect thousands of pounds of food for the hungry

The Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast recently held its annual Helping Hands Food Drive. Hundreds of smiling Girl Scouts went door-to-door collecting bags of food donations left out on doorsteps. Over 75,000 pounds of food donations were brought in to Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy stores and other drop off locations for a final count before heading off to local food banks.

The food drive helps girls learn valuable lessons in becoming active citizens, Girl Scout Chief Executive Office Tracy Keller said. While they know there are hunger problems in other parts of the world, this gives them a lesson on issues that are right here in our community.
